1. TEXTILE CATALOGING

  • establish numbering system
  • attach inventory tags to pieces
  • descriptive list with measurements, materials, structural analysis
  • condition evaluations and report for purposes of conservation and/or storage
  • create inventory card, page or data base entry with photo for each piece
  • written research reports with comparative examples, if available
  • expert authentication, verbal or written report

2. TEXTILE DIGITIAL PHOTOGRAPHY

  • for inventory purposes
  • photography in your home or at our gallery
  • creating CD disks
  • preparing images in format for Emailing

3. TEXTILE CONSERVATION

  • cleaning
  • repairing
  • reweaving
  • embroidering
  • mounting
  • framing in Plexiglas box
  • advice on other framing choices
  • written report on methods and materials used, if desired

4. TEXTILE STORAGE

  • advice for proper storage conditions in the home
  • creating storage and display systems for the home
  • packing textiles for proper storage; including easy display storage mounts

5. TEXTILE DISPLAY

  • general design and installation advice
  • design and create mountings for textile(s) and related objects ( beadwork, bark cloth, costumes, jewelry, baskets, sculpture)
  • design of specific installation of textile(s)
  • design of specific area or entire rooms for textile placement
  • installation of exhibitions

6. TEXTILE CURATORIAL SERVICES

  • Collecting advice (Coptic, Pre-Columbian, Central Asian, African, Indonesian, Japanese and other antique and ethnographic textiles and Contemporary fiber art)
  • Establishing collecting goals
  • Appraisals for insurance

The conservators at the gallery have done conservation and mounting on:

  • Coptic and Pre-Columbian textiles
  • Sautillos, quilts and Navajo blankets
  • Central Asian, Chinese and Japanese robes free standing or wall mounted
  • relining of an important historical Christening robe and repair of other costume
  • cleaning and mounting of beadwork
