Couched (basma) and chain stitch fine silk embroidery on hand woven cotton; lined with red, yellow and white silk and cotton ikat of multiple flower head design 90" X 65" This embroidery was acquired in 1971 or 1972 in Afghanistan. It is a magnificent piece with fine silk embroidery and a great ikat on the back. The arrangement of the green leaves in the border creating a 'frame' around the field is especially interesting. In the field the use of some larger scale flowers and a several changes in color, give this embroidery greater visual interest than others of this type.
