E219 UZBEKISTAN
SUZANI (EMBROIDERY)
HANGING OR BEDCOVER
C. 1825 to 1850
Silk basma (couched) and chain stitch on cotton; 97½" X 61½" This suzani was reportedly made by Shi'ite Muslims from Shaphrikan (near Bukhara). It is very rare in that along with the expected floral motifs in the border there is a section which depicts people, minarets and doors or gates.
